Bassinets, Cribs, Co-Sleepers, Oh My!

Help! Help! Advice from experienced moms needed. I've been told that the first several months of a baby's life, it is best to have them sleep in a bassinet beside the bed versus a crib in another room. What are your thoughts on this? Any hot tips on bassinet's or cribs to invest in? I've been researching co-sleepers in addition to bassinets. Thoughts please!

First let's talk co-sleeper.

Pro: Your baby is right there all of the time! No worrying about buying Angelcare which is darn near the cost of a so-sleeper itself. Can be converted to a crib when not used as a co-sleeper.

Con: The designs available aren't exactly stunning (see pic below). They are very 80's baby. If one were to convert it into a crib after using it as a co-sleeper, that would be one ugly ass crib.

Pron (pro and con): There are fresher modern designs out there winning awards in contests! The only problem? The designs haven't been put into production or sent to market. (Boo!) Example? See second photo.

Price: So far I've seen co-sleepers on the market for anywhere between $80-$Gajillion

Co-sleeper available for purchase:

Co-sleeper, perfect solution: Culla Belly Co-Sleeper

Not ONLY is it a sleek, chic co-sleeper, it is also able to turn into a rocking cradle. Oh yeah, they went there and I wish they would go there again, and again.

Please folks, tell me I am out of the loop and these are actually available for purchase! The most recent information I can find is from 2008! If you have any hot tips, please let me know!

Next up, Bassinet's!

Pro: Baby is able to be in the same room as you. Does not take up as much space as a full size crib.

Con: Not as convenient or cool as a co-sleeper. The baby will outgrow the bassinet. Unless you are willing to spend a small fortune, most bassinet's look like horrible 80's bridesmaid dresses.

Price: $80-$Gajillion

Average bassinet:

Cute $Gajillion bassinet:

Ok, so it's actually closer to $395 than $Gajillion. If you've got the pocket change to afford it, it can be found here.  It is called the Ninna-Nanna Bassinet and ships for $30

Another great solution is the Bloom bassinet. Once again, I don't know that it is available for purchase but it is a very fabu design.

Stunning, no? Bloombaby has stunning furniture that actually is for sale (alas, not online. You have to find a retail store in your area that carries their line). If you have a minute to drool and daydream, be sure to check out the company's website here.

I'm looking for the thrifiest, cutest, and most logical solution possible. That's right folks, I'd like my cake and I'd like to sit down with that cake and eat it too. Yellow cake with butter cream frosting, thanks.

Any thoughts and tips are welcome! What have you found in your experience?
